Eiteljorg Indian Market and Festival – Juried Show

I have been invited to represent the Yavapai-Apache Nation at the Eiteljorg Museum next week, on June 22nd and June 23rd, for the 2013 Eiteljorg Indian Market and Festival. The event will feature top Native American artists from around the country.

I will be displaying several new designs at the festival! I’m really happy with these new pieces.

The Eiteljorg Museum is in Indianapolis, located at 500 West Washington St., at the intersection of West and Washington streets, in White River State Park (WRSP). The museum is within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indiana Convention Center and Circle Center Mall.

The show has an entrance fee of $10.00, kids 17 and under enter free.

These wedding rings are made of blackened silver with mokume overlay with set stones: one is faceted aquamarine the other is faceted sapphire.

These handset, hand-crafted rings are one-of-a-kind. The mokume overlay are reminiscent of the earth here in the southwest, the blackened silver like river canyons cutting into the red rock. The mokume is left raw, so that over time, as the copper matures, it’s color will deepen.

The insides of the rings have beveled edges for a comfort fit, while the tops of the edges are flat, so that they stack nicely.

Key to the Town: Green Box Arts Festival

It’s getting to be that time of year for the Green Box Arts Festival held in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.

In 2012, I was asked to create keys to the city of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, to be presented to honored artists at the Green Box Arts Festival. Wildfires shut down the festival last year, but this year all systems are go. Christian Keesee, founder and promoter of the event, talks about this year’s festival in the Denver Post.

I worked with artist Holly Troy to design the keys and we created this unique art piece. The keys are cast in bronze and then are hand-hammered and highly polished, giving each key a unique surface texture. They come with a bronze chain and a medallion naming the recipient of the key and the year. The keys are approximately nine inches long by three inches wide.

This was an amazing project, and it is really exciting that my work will be used over the next several years.

Big thanks to NANAI (Netherlands Association for North American Indians) for inviting me to speak and show my work at the 40th Anniversary celebration of the organization. It was truly an honor! Also, gratitude for the kindness, generosity and hospitality to all who I met in Holland.

I will be sharing more about my trip to the Netherlands with everyone once I have had a chance to process the journey and recover from jetlag!

Holland is a beautiful country — I love the canals and the bicycles and the architecture —  I am looking forward to going back!
